who is nanny cake?
A little insight into Nanny Cake and my culinary journey so far.
Hello my name is Adèle and I am Nanny Cake. Nanny to 4 gorgeous grandchildren. I would like to share with you my decades of culinary experience, my own extensively tried and tested recipes and my passion for baking.
I first started compiling a family cookbook in 1992 so you can see I have been working on this ambition for a VERY long time! Decades of trying to create new, family favourite recipes or perfecting recipes that have been passed down through the generations.
Baking is not just my hobby, baking is my obsession! I wake up thinking about recipes and read cookbooks in bed at night!
It was a passion that was first ignited by my own grandmother. Every Saturday, I would stand on a bespoke, kitchen stool and watch her bake. Gradually I was assigned small tasks until, having outgrown the kitchen stool, I graduated to her watching me.
The bakes were simple and the recipes I have created for you to make, are simple too.
During my many decades, I have at times baked semi professionally and also closely guarded the recipes I developed… until now!
I did actually apply to become a contestant on The Great British Bake Off programme (series 3) and got accepted right up until the screen test stage. The process took 5 months. It was during my final interview that I revealed I was taking a ‘gap year’ as 3 friends and family were terminally ill. I would like to think that was the reason I didn’t finally make it onto the programme, rather than my face not being HD ready!
Nanny Cake’s face is HD ready and she is my alter ego. She is the main character in the children’s cookbook I am writing. Stories introduce simple but delicious recipes that children and beginners can bake with ease. Yes baking with children can be messy but also a lot of fun. My aim is to inspire people to either start baking or to build memories and skills with their small humans, that will last a lifetime.
